I have to forget:
what we were and how we were;
That my thoughts turn to you
at the wee hours of each day.
You were once a favorite part of my day,
And you made me smile before
sleep envelops me each night.

I need to forget that you were my lifeline,
The first I go to with everything!
I have to teach my heart to quit
reaching for you at every turn,
help her see that you are long gone
and what remains of us have cease to be...

I want to forget what it means to mourn a lost lover,
the feel of unending tears that wells up
and spring forth for no reason.
These are the lessons I must learn...
